Decoupler = success

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Thanks to everyone who came out last Saturday–we had an amazing turnout and a lot of people seemed to respond to the work. Extra-special thanks to Jessica at Umber Studios for hosting, hanging, bartending, label making, etc. If you have anything to say about the show, L’etoile Magazine is running an open discussion on their blog. Otherwise, if you missed it you didn’t completely blow it, as the gallery will be open one more time on Sunday, February 3rd from 12-5 (so you can still catch the game). Stop on by and tell us what you think.

Foam Magazine

Just discovered Foam Magazine today–really really good. The artist’s portfolios are printed on a variety of different–and nice–paper stocks. Essays aren’t amazing, but for looking at pictures in a periodical, it doesn’t get much better than this. The current issue has a spotlight on Jen Bekman (way to go Jen!), along with strong portfolios by Stephen Shore, Wolfgang Tillmans, and Thomas Ruff. Check it out if you can.

Skating, more skating, and breaking stuff

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

I’m excited because for the first time in my life I’ll be skating somewhat consistently during the winter–what a concept in Minnesota!

My buddy Michael just built a bowl–it’s pretty rad:

The mini-ramp is finally done. Thank god, cuz I was tired of skating in our kitchen instead:

Speaking of finishing things–Tucker finally completed the door to his bedroom (with a lot of help from Jeremy). Hopefully he won’t plow through this one like the friggin Kool-aid Man, ooooooooooh yeah:

Taking and Making

engagement center

So, I don’t know how I’ve considered myself a photographer for the past ten years and have yet to actually exhibit ‘traditional’ photography (the kind you take with a camera, you know…), but it’s all coming to an end. Actually, it’s more like a dare, and I’ve accepted the dare and I’m finally putting some of my own photography out there into the world. If you care to see it, come to Decoupler @ Umber Studios on Saturday, January 26th. I’ll be showing work from my book ‘Future Mothers & Fathers’ and my BFF Tucker Gerrick will be showing work about his dissolving marriage. All in all it should be an awesomely depressing show, complete with champagne toast.
