Short film / long photograph
In the tradition of ‘easy post Fridays’, I submit to you another simple work I made recently. I think it’s important to note that I consider these works to be long photographs just as much as they are short films, perhaps even moreso. Not a huge difference, but don’t look for any narrative. Think of them as video snapshots.

It’s interesting to think of this short film/long photograph issue. Can you imagine walking into a gallery and instead of finding hundreds of photos on the wall there were hundreds of small screens with looping videos? Could there be a return of straight/street photography in the form of short videos?

Josh-With technology becoming cheaper and cheaper, I don’t think we’re that far off. All of my video is captured using a $30 video camera which has a small LCD display on it. If you figure the average photographer spends at least $100 on framing/matting per photograph, it becomes quite feasible to imagine a gallery with 15 monitors running continously looping images. At the moment I can’t recall any artists who have done this. If I was to pick anyone, I think Stan Douglas could easily do a show like this.
